Grup Balfegó, a leading Catalan company in the fishing, aquaculture, and sale of Bluefin tuna, faced a significant challenge in managing the administrative complexity of its operations. The company is committed to sustainable fishing practices and customer satisfaction, which requires strict adherence to over 30 guidelines set by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). The ICCAT's recuperation plan, implemented in 2006, aimed to preserve the Bluefin tuna species, making it one of the most regulated fishing activities globally. The company's vision for future generations to continue responsible fishing required an improved approach to ensure maximum cost-effectiveness. The challenge was further compounded by the need to automate administrative activities, reduce human errors, and provide complete traceability of Bluefin tuna from capture to consumption.

The company is committed to sustainable fishing practices and customer satisfaction, and it is the only company in the world to implement a complete Bluefin tuna traceability system from capture to consumption. This system provides consumers with visibility into sourcing information through a simple SMS message or the company's website. Under the leadership of General Manager Juan Serrano, the company has taken a technological leap to achieve business excellence through a corporate social responsibility system that meets customer expectations and ensures the species' continuity for future generations.
The Solution
To address these challenges, Grup Balfegó implemented the AuraQuantic BPM Suite as a corporate automation platform for all its processes, including administration and production. The solution integrated RPA and IoT to input information in automated processes, mobile apps and BPM to gather data and create automatic documents, and ERP system integration for automatic invoicing. The company also used external portals for customers and partners, and ships' GPS systems to register dates and positions, which the BPM used to create fishing heat maps. IoT and BPM were also used to control and register temperature logs along the tuna lifecycle. The solution optimized fishing activity efficiency, adjusted supply to demand, controlled feeding to meet market requirements, executed slaughter according to demand, and expanded to new markets. The solution also automated the creation and transmission of reports and official documentation.
