The Challenge
NCR, a global leader in point-of-service technology for restaurants, retailers, and banks, faced significant cybersecurity challenges. With a complex global customer base, a cyberattack could have devastating effects on both NCR and its customers. The company needed a cybersecurity partner that could provide sophisticated, multi-layered protection to keep cybercriminals at bay. Unsatisfied with their current provider, NCR sought a partner that could engage at a high level and ensure smooth, uninterrupted service for their global business customers.
About The Customer
National Cash Register (NCR) is a world leader in enterprise technology for restaurants, retailers, and banks. As the top global provider of point-of-service software for retail and hospitality, and the leading provider of multi-vendor ATM software, NCR creates software, hardware, and services that run the enterprise from the back office to the front end. NCR's customers have very complex businesses, and they rely on NCR's systems and processes to run efficiently. A cybersecurity event could severely impact trust between NCR and its customers, as well as between their customers and end users. Therefore, sophisticated cybersecurity protection is essential for NCR.
The Solution
NCR partnered with Binary Defense, a cybersecurity firm that provides 24/7/365 monitoring through its Security Operations Center (SOC). Binary Defense acts as an extension of NCR's in-house team, monitoring the entire NCR environment, including log data from network infrastructure and 34,000 endpoints. The SOC team looks for suspicious activity and works with NCR to remediate any issues. Additionally, Binary Defense offers proactive threat hunting services, which helped NCR uncover a malicious script that could have caused significant damage. The threat hunting team also shares research with NCR, helping them develop preventative measures against new malware variants.
