The Challenge
Manually routing 18 drivers and sorting through 300 invoices per day was a very cumbersome and time-consuming activity. Not only was this a tedious process that often took up to 4 hours per day but the dispatcher was even coming in to route on his days off. Although the dispatcher had his process of routing down to a science, Mansfield Paper had no back up router available. This is when Scott Parent, President of Mansfield Paper, decided to explore Omnitracs Roadnet Technologies’ Roadnet routing and scheduling software. When Scott began exploring software packages, there was immediate hesitation from upper management and the dispatcher. Scott explained, “Even though the dispatcher was doing an unbelievable job with his resources, I believed that software would take our company to the next level, bringing us into the 21st century of routing.” He explained that it would automate Mansfield Paper’s routing process and allow for more than one user to operate the software efficiently.
About The Customer
Mansfield Paper is an independently owned and operated foodservice, disposable goods, and janitorial supply distributor based in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The company services more than 3500 customers throughout Southern New England and New York from their 130,000 square foot distribution facility. Their customers include restaurants, schools, hospitals, hotels, institutions, malls, nursing homes, and colleges. With a fleet of 18 trucks, Mansfield Paper is dedicated to providing timely and efficient delivery services to a diverse range of clients in the region.
The Solution
Scott Parent, President of Mansfield Paper, decided to implement Omnitracs Roadnet Technologies’ Roadnet routing and scheduling software to address the inefficiencies in their manual routing process. The software automated the routing process, significantly reducing the time and effort required to plan routes. It also allowed for more than one user to operate the software efficiently, providing a backup solution in case the primary dispatcher was unavailable. The dispatcher, initially hesitant, quickly adapted to the new system and found it to be highly effective. The software provided clear and precise driver directions, making it easier for new drivers to get accustomed to their routes. The user-friendly interface of Roadnet allowed almost anyone in the organization to use it, further enhancing operational flexibility. Additionally, the technical support from Roadnet Technologies was professional and responsive, ensuring smooth implementation and ongoing operation.

Vehicle Fleet Analytics
Organizations frequently implement a maintenance strategy for their fleets of vehicles using a combination of time and usage based maintenance schedules. While effective as a whole, time and usage based schedules do not take into account driving patterns, environmental factors, and sensors currently deployed within the vehicle measuring crank voltage, ignition voltage, and acceleration, all of which have a significant influence on the overall health of the vehicle. In a typical fleet, a large percentage of road calls are related to electrical failure, with battery failure being a common cause. Battery failures result in unmet service agreement levels and costly re-adjustment of scheduled to provide replacement vehicles. To reduce the impact of unplanned maintenance, the transportation logistics company was interested in a trial of C3 Vehicle Fleet Analytics.
