Groupe Renault adopts Modular Open Source Electric Car Platform to create new EV

Groupe Renault acknowledged that international growth is lacking and could only develop through a strengthening of Alliance technologies, scale effects and internal assets. Electrical vehicular quality also had to be improved - if not, new collaborations are needed so that  equipment compactness and integrity may be accentuated and the range of light commercial vehicles expanded.

  • Groupe Renault
Groupe Renault is a French multinational automobile manufacturer established in 1899. The company produces a range of cars and vans, and in the past has manufactured trucks, tractors, tanks, buses/coaches, aircraft and aircraft engines, and autorail vehicles.

  • Discrete Manufacturing
  • As the platform and software is open source and available for customisation, client range includes start-ups, independent labs, private customers and researchers.

  • Renault has partnered with OSVehicle to create POM, a new electric vehicle (EV) whose adaptability and distributability makes it highly covetable. Software design modifications and high-performance driving tools may be incorporated into the vehicle, which itself is a twist on Renault’s popular Twizy model. The new vehicle hopes to reinvigorate innovation in the development of vehicles that satisfy 21st century mobility trends and exigencies across various demographics.

  • Impact #1
    [Cost Reduction - R&D]
By presenting the world’s first open-source mass-market vehicle, Groupe Renault will be able to reap that which it has sown: cost reduction for EV R&D and appealing prices for car company clients. Following OSVehicle's motto, Groupe Renault demonstrates investment in the democratization of mobility by enabling businesses and startups to design, prototype, and build custom electric vehicles and transportation services.

    Impact #3
  • Benefit #1

OSVehicle provides a ready-to-use hardware platform which enables companies like Groupe Renault to produce complete electric vehicles in half the time.

    Benefit #2

OSVehicle's open source, modular, electric vehicle platform allows new and existing car manufacturers to develop their own models saving up to two years of R&D and millions of dollars in investments.

    Benefit #3

Given that the OSVehicle's platform comes with the rudimental functional parts of a car - the wheels, chassis, motor, electronics and battery, it cuts the overall cost by 5/6.

  • Factory Operations Visibility & Intelligence
Visualizing factory operations data is a challenge for many manufacturers today. One of the IIoT initiatives some manufacturers are pursuing today is providing real-time visibility in factory operations and the health of machines. The goal is to improve manufacturing efficiency. The challenge is in combining and correlating diverse data sources that greatly vary in nature, origin, and life cycle. Factory Operations Visibility and Intelligence (FOVI) is designed to collect sensor data generated on the factory floor, production-equipment logs, production plans and statistics, operator information, and to integrate all this and other related information in the cloud. In this way, it can be used to bring visibility to production facilities, analyze and predict outcomes, and support better decisions for improvements.
