Groupe Renault adopts Modular Open Source Electric Car Platform to create new EV

Groupe Renault acknowledged that international growth is lacking and could only develop through a strengthening of Alliance technologies, scale effects and internal assets. Electrical vehicular quality also had to be improved - if not, new collaborations are needed so that  equipment compactness and integrity may be accentuated and the range of light commercial vehicles expanded.

  • Renault has partnered with OSVehicle to create POM, a new electric vehicle (EV) whose adaptability and distributability makes it highly covetable. Software design modifications and high-performance driving tools may be incorporated into the vehicle, which itself is a twist on Renault’s popular Twizy model.     Exposure to IoT innovation: This partnership opens up the hardware and software of Renault’s Twizy architecture to novel features and updates, partially through the support and inclusion of ARM, a key player in microprocessor Intellectual Property on the open-source vehicle platform that offers design technology powering more than 4/5 of mobile computing devices. Twizzy/POM software components are already circulating - companies like 3D of Local Motors are employing these in particular for their own car models, eg. the Strati. Fostering relationships with developers and other experimenters likely will bring benefits later, such as the possibility of Renault-compatible apps and such.

    Box ideal mechanic over high performance:  The Renault POM is essentially a stripped down and more compact version of the Renault Twizy. A simple base frame but one that still encompasses the set of its axles, electronics, electric engines, and the 6.1 kWh Lithium-Ion battery and. Cheerleading is given in 2 versions, the 45 POM and POM 80. The first offers a power of 4 kW only and a maximum speed of 45 km/h whreas the second, with its 13 kW, may reach 80 km/h and above. The lightweight and clean chassis makes for a go-to option for bespoke car companies.
