挑战
Harman International, a global leader in the production of high-quality audio and electronic products, was facing a challenge in their product development process. Despite having a well-documented and sophisticated process for product development, they lacked a system to streamline operations, elevate visibility, and ensure quick access to the latest information. This was slowing down product development and jeopardizing the long-term competitive advantage of the group. The company was also facing issues with the dissemination of knowledge and best practices in their Engineering and Product Development, which was causing a slow progression in their group-wide learning. This left the non-experts with an untapped potential and delayed advancement in their contributions.
关于客户
Harman International is a worldwide leader in the manufacture of high-quality audio and electronic products. The company has a collection of top-class brands such as Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL, and Mark Levinson. Harman is also a dominant figure in the development of automobile “infotainment” systems, which combine audio, video, navigation, telecom, and Internet access. The Harman Consumer Group, a business unit of Harman International, is responsible for the development and engineering of the company's products. The efficient and optimum use of their Product Development and Engineering resources and the resultant Intellectual Property are of the highest importance to the company.
解决方案
Harman International chose Intellect’s Instant Application Platform (IAP) to streamline their operations and drive proprietary product development processes. The IAP was used to create a custom application that completely modeled their development processes while supporting a worldwide product development organization. The application captured and communicated critical design information as it was created, recorded processes and knowledge as an easily accessible and reusable tool, provided fast access to relevant and useful knowledge across current and future projects, and tracked development tasks, responsibilities, and the information associated with these tasks. The implementation of the IAP involved a Needs Assessment and Business Case Analysis in the first phase, followed by the creation of the business application to meet the requirements of their highly detailed product development process.

Remote Temperature Monitoring of Perishable Goods Saves Money
RMONI was facing temperature monitoring challenges in a cold chain business. A cold chain must be established and maintained to ensure goods have been properly refrigerated during every step of the process, making temperature monitoring a critical business function. Manual registration practice can be very costly, labor intensive and prone to mistakes.

Leveraging the IoT to Gain a Competitive Edge in International Competition
Many large manufacturers in and outside Japan are competing for larger market share in the same space, expecting a growing demand for projectors in the areas of entertainment, which requires glamor and strong visual performance as well as digital signage that can attract people’s attention. “It is becoming more and more difficult to differentiate ourselves with stand-alone hardware products,” says Kazuyuki Kitagawa, Director of Service & Support at Panasonic AVC Networks. “In order for Panasonic to grow market share and overall business, it is essential for us to develop solutions that deliver significant added value.” Panasonic believes projection failure and quality deterioration should never happen. This is what and has driven them to make their projectors IoT-enabled. More specifically, Panasonic has developed a system that collects data from projectors, visualizes detailed operational statuses, and predicts issues and address them before failure occurs. Their projectors are embedded with a variety of sensors that measure power supply, voltage, video input/ output signals, intake/exhaust air temperatures, cooling fan operations, and light bulb operating time. These sensors have been used to make the projector more intelligent, automatically suspending operation when the temperature rises excessively, and automatically switching light bulbs. Although this was a great first step, Panasonic projectors were still not equipped with any capability to send the data over a network.
