The Challenge
The Chicago 100,000 Opportunities Initiative was founded with the goal of finding underserved kids in the community good jobs. However, reaching these kids about job opportunities was a significant challenge. The Initiative had a team of interns committed to making a difference in their community, and they were tasked with finding a strategy that could reach the most number of kids.
About The Customer
Launched in August 2015, the 100,000 Opportunities Initiative is the largest employer-led coalition focused on hiring youth aged 16-24 who are not in school. It is an alliance of private, public, and philanthropic organizations working together to break down systemic barriers to employment and education that hamper youth. Together, they set out to change hiring, retention, and advancement strategies by creating new employment, internship, and apprenticeship opportunities in their respective companies.
The Solution
The interns knew that texting was the primary way young people communicate, so they decided to center their campaign around it. That’s where Trumpia came in. Inspired by strategies used by Uber and Lyft, the interns chose to print their mobile keyword “Jobs4u” and information about the program on a business card. These business cards were then handed out in the community, along with posters and electronic billboards advertising the same keyword throughout the city. With the success the program has seen in Chicago, other cities began to take notice. Now they’ve been tasked to help with similar programs in Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Phoenix.
Operational Impact
  • In their first summer alone, the 100,000 Opportunities Initiative were able to get over 2,000 signups.
  • They then sent information to these kids about hiring fairs and other programs that could help connect them to paying jobs.
  • The success of the program in Chicago has led to its implementation in other cities such as Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Phoenix.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Over 2,000 signups in the first summer alone.
