The Challenge
In 2010, Bacardi decided to create a standard desktop lifecycle within the organization. The goal was to achieve a uniform environment for software deployment, security, and user experience across its 130 locations worldwide. However, the global dispersal of Bacardi's footprint presented several challenges in implementation. Initially, Bacardi's IT infrastructure was managed by a service provider using 1E solutions like Nomad and Shopping in conjunction with Microsoft's Configuration Manager (SCCM). Over time, Bacardi's IT team saw potential benefits in bringing the control of this infrastructure in-house, aiming for cost savings and increased agility, especially with the upcoming Windows 10 rollout.
About The Customer
Bacardi is a globally recognized brand responsible for some of the most famous and beloved liquors in the world. With a footprint encompassing around 130 locations across six continents, Bacardi has a significant global presence. The company has been leveraging 1E solutions as part of its IT infrastructure for almost a decade. Bacardi's IT team recently decided to bring the management of its IT infrastructure in-house, transitioning from a well-known service provider to achieve greater control, cost savings, and agility. This move was particularly motivated by the need to efficiently roll out Windows 10 and other technological advancements.
The Solution
Bacardi's IT team decided to bring the management of its IT infrastructure in-house, transitioning from a service provider to achieve greater control and cost savings. They worked closely with 1E to ensure a seamless migration of the entire solution, including 1E products like Nomad and Shopping, as well as Microsoft's SCCM. Nomad's peer-to-peer technology minimized the SCCM infrastructure, reducing the number of secondary servers from 27 to just 5. Shopping, 1E's enterprise app store, was also brought in-house, allowing Bacardi to update to the latest version and plan for expanded accessibility. Additionally, 1E's Windows Servicing Suite played a pivotal role in Bacardi's Windows 10 rollout, enabling efficient data distribution and lifecycle management.
Operational Impact
  • Bacardi achieved significant financial savings by bringing the management of its IT infrastructure in-house.
  • The transition allowed Bacardi to become more agile, particularly in application requests and updates.
  • Nomad's peer-to-peer technology minimized the SCCM infrastructure, reducing the number of secondary servers from 27 to just 5.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced the number of secondary servers from 27 to just 5.
