The Challenge
Dot Foods, the nation’s first and largest food industry redistributor, was facing challenges in managing the growth of its business, which was doubling every five years. The company was struggling with customization, new channels, and keeping up with regulation, all while trying to leverage technology across the enterprise to keep costs low. The company had been using a warehouse management system (WMS) that was nearing end of life, and needed a new WMS platform that would serve as the foundation for all its future supply chain initiatives.
About The Customer
Dot Foods is the nation’s first and largest food industry redistributor, delivering 118,000 products in less-than-truckload (LTL) quantities to distributors in all 50 states and over 25 countries. The privately owned $6.6 billion redistributor buys full truckloads from more than 830 manufacturers and consolidates their products in 10 distribution centers (DCs) across the country. It then resells these products in LTL quantities to distributors on a weekly basis. Dot Foods is known for its innovative solutions and focus on shared growth, and leverages technology to deliver value to its customers and across its organization.
The Solution
Dot Foods selected JDA Warehouse Management, part of JDA Software’s Intelligent Fulfillment™ solution, because of its overall functionality and ability to adapt. The company chose JDA Consulting Partner Accelogix to deploy JDA Warehouse Management across its distribution center sites. The project followed an agile implementation approach, establishing and meeting short milestones to ensure that tasks were 100 percent complete and working, while allowing the project team to adjust mid-project when needed. The first three sites in University Park, Illinois, and Toronto and Calgary, Canada, were successfully deployed ahead of schedule and under budget.
Operational Impact
  • Provided a WMS platform that would support future supply chain initiatives
  • Deployed solution to three sites, ahead of schedule and under budget
