The Challenge
Access Business Group, a full-service outsourced manufacturing and supply chain organization, was facing challenges in maintaining high customer service levels while minimizing inventory at its 11 distribution centers across Russia and Europe. The company was working with outdated supply chain technologies that made it difficult to maintain a balance between rapid fulfillment and tight inventory control. The company had an older warehouse management platform and some homegrown systems that were not sustainable for the future. The lack of standardization of processes and transparency across operations was also a major issue.
About The Customer
Access Business Group is a full-service outsourced manufacturing and supply chain organization that offers research and development, product design, manufacturing, planning, logistics, and order fulfillment capabilities. Originally founded to serve Amway, one of the world’s largest direct-selling businesses, today Access Business Group acts as a third-party manufacturer for some of the best-known brand names worldwide. Each year, the company produces more than 185 million units, representing 398 stock-keeping units, for its third-party partners. Its primary products include shampoos, conditioners, body washes and gels, body lotions, household hard surface cleaners, dish detergents, and laundry detergents.
The Solution
Access Business Group selected JDA Warehouse Management and JDA Fulfillment, from JDA’s Intelligent Fulfillment™ solution, because they are industry-leading products and would be easy to integrate with other systems used within the corporation. The warehouse management system (WMS) is used in the company’s 11 distribution centers across Russia, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Turkey, and Greece. The fulfillment solution is used at its central planning office, which provides inventory replenishment planning for the entire region. The implementation of these solutions has led to the standardization of processes and improved transparency across operations. The company now only needs to look at exceptions, freeing up resources to work on further process improvements.
Operational Impact
  • Standardized processes and improved efficiency in 11 distribution centers
  • Increased transparency across Russian and European operations
  • Improved productivity via exception-based management
Quantitative Benefit
  • Inventory reduction of 50 percent over the past decade
  • High service standards and optimization of inventory
  • Increased productivity and freed up resources for further process improvements
