The Challenge
W&W Informatik GmbH, the central IT provider for Wüstenrot & Württembergische Group, faced significant performance issues with their existing antimalware solution. The solution was causing performance degradation in their fast-growing virtualized server environment. The server team was on the lookout for a new cybersecurity solution that could eliminate the security performance penalty while maintaining robust protection. They aimed to establish a multilayer concept of antimalware protection. After a chance meeting at a VMworld trade show, W&W IT decided to conduct proofs of concept with Bitdefender and two other competing solutions. Ultimately, they chose Bitdefender GravityZone Enterprise Security for their virtualized server infrastructure.
About The Customer
The Wüstenrot & Württembergische Group (W&W) is a German financial services provider formed in 1999 from the merger of Wüstenrot and Württembergische. The company develops and sells financial security, property investment, risk protection, and private wealth management services. Headquartered in Stuttgart and Ludwigsburg, Germany, W&W employs around 13,000 people, including 900 IT staff. W&W Informatik GmbH (W&W IT) serves as the central IT provider for the group, managing a complex IT environment that includes Citrix XenServer, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and VMware vSphere. The company was facing challenges with its existing antimalware solution, which was causing performance issues in its virtualized server environment.
The Solution
W&W IT replaced their existing antimalware solution with Bitdefender GravityZone Enterprise Security. This solution protects 2,700 Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers virtualized with VMware vSphere, along with 40 physical Microsoft Windows Servers. The GravityZone suite includes Security for Virtualized Environments and Security for Endpoints Physical Servers, all centrally managed from the GravityZone Control Center. The application environments running on virtual machines protected by GravityZone include Citrix XenServer, Docker, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, Oracle, SimCorp Dimension, and FIS Prophet. W&W IT has also benefited from Bitdefender Premium Support and the new customer support portal. The deployment has led to smoother and faster application performance due to decreased CPU loads. Bitdefender’s CPU-based licensing model has increased data center efficiency, saving both time and money. GravityZone has delivered 100% protection against ransomware and other attacks targeting the virtualized environment at W&W Group.
Operational Impact
