The Challenge
Agilent-Qianfeng Electronics Technologies, a joint venture between Agilent Technologies and Chengdu Qianfeng Electronics, was established to tap into China's rapidly growing $200 billion electronics industry. The venture's R&D lab in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, needed highly productive electronics design software to produce valuable test and measurement (T&M) instrument research in the shortest possible time. The software's efficiency and quality were critical to achieving this goal, along with considerations such as cost and customer support. The lab was tasked with spearheading product R&D for the Agilent brand in the Chinese region, which required working to short development design cycles due to the local market's dynamic nature. The lab staff needed to become proficient in the development software tools quickly. While speed and efficiency were fundamental objectives, maintaining Agilent's reputation for accuracy and high reliability in their test instruments was also paramount, placing high demands on the software's accuracy and performance during the R&D phase.
About The Customer
Agilent-Qianfeng Electronics Technologies is a joint venture between Agilent Technologies’ test and measurement organization and Chengdu Qianfeng Electronics Ltd. The venture is responsible for the development and manufacturing of test equipment for the Chinese and global markets. Chengdu Qianfeng is a leading company in electronic equipment, household appliances, and electronic machinery, and is recognized as a premium brand in China. Agilent Technologies Inc., a global technology leader in communications, electronics, life sciences, and chemical analysis, was spun off from Hewlett Packard six years ago. The Agilent-Qianfeng Electronics Technologies joint venture is part of the Electronic Measurement Group (EMG).
The Solution
After evaluating various software solutions, Agilent-Qianfeng selected Altium Designer for their R&D lab engineering staff. The decision was based on the software's short learning curve, intuitive operation, high level of integration, powerful features, and cost-effectiveness. The lab was equipped with a 20-user Altium Designer network license and four single-user licenses, providing all the capabilities needed to take any board-level design project from concept to completion in the shortest possible time. The seamless tool integration, ease of learning, and intuitive operation made Altium Designer the preferred choice among all other vendors. The lab's transition to a productive design environment was facilitated by local Altium support teams and the Global Customer Care team, who ensured a smooth adoption of the technology and provided ongoing engineering support and training.

Many large manufacturers in and outside Japan are competing for larger market share in the same space, expecting a growing demand for projectors in the areas of entertainment, which requires glamor and strong visual performance as well as digital signage that can attract people’s attention. “It is becoming more and more difficult to differentiate ourselves with stand-alone hardware products,” says Kazuyuki Kitagawa, Director of Service & Support at Panasonic AVC Networks. “In order for Panasonic to grow market share and overall business, it is essential for us to develop solutions that deliver significant added value.” Panasonic believes projection failure and quality deterioration should never happen. This is what and has driven them to make their projectors IoT-enabled. More specifically, Panasonic has developed a system that collects data from projectors, visualizes detailed operational statuses, and predicts issues and address them before failure occurs. Their projectors are embedded with a variety of sensors that measure power supply, voltage, video input/ output signals, intake/exhaust air temperatures, cooling fan operations, and light bulb operating time. These sensors have been used to make the projector more intelligent, automatically suspending operation when the temperature rises excessively, and automatically switching light bulbs. Although this was a great first step, Panasonic projectors were still not equipped with any capability to send the data over a network.
