The Challenge
Alessandro Magri, a renowned producer, arranger, and musician based in Italy, was facing challenges in his music production process. As an analog enthusiast, he was seeking a solution that could provide an analog-like experience in the digital world. He was using multiple control surfaces for different applications, which was not only consuming a lot of space but also creating confusion. He was using Logic and Pro Tools installed on two networked Mac Pros and had to switch between two control surfaces for each application. This was hampering his workflow and reducing his efficiency in music production. The challenge was to find a solution that could integrate all these functions into one control surface, providing a seamless, efficient, and intuitive music production experience.
About The Customer
Alessandro Magri, born in 1970 in Cento, Italy, is a renowned producer, arranger, and musician. He earned a piano diploma at Conservatory and studied classic, modern, and jazz composition. For the last 20 years, he has been a significant figure in the Italian pop scene and TV advertising production. He also contributes to the Italian music magazine SM/Strumenti Musicali and runs his own training company, Audio Engine Music/LogicPro.it, which has become the most exclusive and prestigious Apple Authorized Training Center in Italy. Alessandro was the first European Apple Certified Trainer, Logic-Advanced, and continues to work closely with Apple.
The Solution
Avid's Artist Series provided the perfect solution for Alessandro's challenges. The Artist Mix and Artist Control allowed him to adjust levels, pans, solo multiple tracks simultaneously, and perform other channel strip related functions, providing an analog-like experience. The full configurability offered by Artist Control’s touch-screen section, including layout, recall, and key command assignments, greatly improved his workflow. The assignable hardware soft keys became one of his favorite features, allowing him to add new commands as needed. The EuCon software was fast and perfectly integrated with his favorite software, enabling him to build configurations as needed. One of the most significant features of EuCon was the ability to control more than one application on multiple networked computers. This allowed him to control both Logic and Pro Tools from one surface, reducing space waste, confusion, and enhancing music production.
