AMC Networks was facing the challenge of transitioning from a collection of independently operated channels to a coordinated production environment. The network was in need of a solution that could streamline production, accelerate workflows, and enhance collaboration across the network. The key to building this large, cohesive operation was a powerful asset management technology that could automate and streamline the storytelling process. AMC Networks wanted to establish end-to-end workflows encompassing the full production cycle—from search, ingest, and editing to distribution and archiving—within the context of a unified architecture. The system also needed to be platform agnostic, giving editors the ability to work on both Media Composer and Final Cut Pro and go between the two systems seamlessly.

AMC Networks is a company that operates several well-known cable channels, including AMC, IFC, WE tv, and SundanceTV. The company was looking to transition from a collection of independently operated channels to a coordinated production environment. They needed a solution that could streamline their production process, accelerate workflows, and enhance collaboration across the network. The company also required a system that was platform agnostic, allowing their editors to work on both Media Composer and Final Cut Pro and switch between the two systems seamlessly.
The Solution
AMC Networks implemented a wide deployment of industry-leading tools based on the Avid MediaCentral platform. The Avid workflow enabled AMC Networks to take a uniquely holistic approach to content creation in which all the media production tools and systems work together to provide a level of quality, speed, and flexibility once thought impossible. The Interplay | Production and MAM solutions enabled the team to share media unilaterally. Project contributors could locate, access, view, edit, and annotate assets and associated metadata, giving them everything they needed in a single toolset. The media was shared not only within their own production group, but also among all interconnected groups working on related projects. Avid media management technology allowed the system to be configured to meet the requirements of every channel within the AMC network, whether it was remapping audio, adding poster art to the package delivery, or marrying the closed captioning to a particular piece of content.
