The Challenge

Bounce, a smart mobility solution in India, was faced with the challenge of making daily commutes stress-free, time-saving, reliable, and convenient for its users. The company, which operates a scooter sharing mobility app, needed a location solution that could scale rapidly and provide accurate location information to its growing customer base. The motorized scooter, being the best selling vehicle in South Asia, was the chosen mode of transport for Bounce. However, the company needed to guide users to the nearest available scooters, provide unmatched location accuracy and information, and quickly scale to serve a growing customer base of more than 2.1 million people. Bounce officially launched its mobility app in September 2018 in Bangalore, one of the largest cities in India with a metropolitan population of more than 10 million. The app was so popular and easy to use that within two years, it had spread to bustling Hyderabad and a host of other cities.

About The Customer

Bounce is India's first smart mobility solution, with a mission of making daily commutes stress-free, time-saving, reliable, and convenient. The company operates a scooter sharing mobility app, aiming to make urban transport more accessible for everyone. Bounce officially launched its mobility app in Bangalore, one of the largest cities in India, and within two years, it had spread to bustling Hyderabad and a host of other cities. The company serves a growing customer base of more than 2.1 million people, providing them with a convenient and inexpensive way to travel around cities without having to buy and maintain their own vehicles.

The Solution

To address its challenges, Bounce turned to Google Maps Platform. The company, in partnership with Google Cloud Premier Partner Searce, built out the core of its app using Google Maps Platform. The Maps Javascript API was used to display accurate, up-to-date maps which users could easily navigate to find out where the nearest available scooters were. The Place Autocomplete service was used to make the process of typing in eventual destinations more convenient, and the Geocoding API was used to quickly and efficiently display that location on their map. The Directions API helped Bounce and its users to determine the best possible routes for their journey, while the Roads API ensured that these routes corresponded with road conditions in the real world. The Distance Matrix API was a key component, helping Bounce to calculate journey times and help customers to optimize their journeys.

Operational Impact
  • The use of Google Maps Platform has significantly improved Bounce's service. The company has been able to guide users to the nearest available scooters, provide unmatched location accuracy and information, and quickly scale to serve a growing customer base. The Maps Javascript API, Place Autocomplete service, Geocoding API, Directions API, Roads API, and Distance Matrix API have all played crucial roles in enhancing the user experience and optimizing journeys. As a result, Bounce has seen rapid growth and popularity since its launch in late 2018. The company is now planning to expand its services to more cities and towns in India, with the intention to continue its partnership with Google Maps Platform.
