The Challenge
Braserv Petróleo, a Colombian oil and gas support services company, experienced rapid growth from 2016 to 2018, expanding from four rigs to 15 across several high-production oil fields. With this expansion, the company faced the challenge of maintaining the reliability of their critical assets, which included their workover and well servicing unit, drawworks, hydraulic winch, traveling block, mud pumps, BOPs, and choke manifold. Any failure of these assets could result in high costs due to lost production time and emergency maintenance expenses, as well as potential risk of injury to personnel. About 20% of all Braserv assets were considered critical, necessitating a reliable solution to mitigate risk and avoid unplanned downtime. The company had previously attempted to use another maintenance management system, but it failed to meet their needs.
About The Customer
Established in 2012, Braserv Petróleo is a Colombian company that provides support services for the oil and gas sector. Initially operating with just four rigs in the Campo Guando oil field, the company experienced rapid growth and by the end of 2018, had deployed 15 rigs across several other high-production oil fields. Braserv operates in the most productive oil fields in Colombia, with the two largest fields producing approximately 350,000 barrels of oil per day. The company employs 620 people across 15 worksites and is committed to safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. They seek to leverage cutting-edge technology to fulfill these commitments.
The Solution
Braserv Petróleo implemented eMaint, a powerful, user-friendly Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), to strengthen their maintenance program. More than half of the records in Braserv’s deployment of eMaint relate to asset inspections for their maintenance, operations, and Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) programs. eMaint enabled weekly scans of all the company’s critical assets, providing visibility into their condition from any location. This allowed Braserv to monitor the health and reliability of their critical equipment, improving key performance indicators (KPIs) like mean time between failures (MTBF). Within 12 months of implementing eMaint, Braserv began seeing lower maintenance costs, increased data traceability, and greater worker satisfaction. The company also plans to use eMaint for root-cause analysis of failures and resource optimization in the future.
