The Challenge
Brisco Inc., a machine, fab, and laser shop, was previously using JobBoss software for their operations. However, they faced significant challenges with inventory management as they were unable to accurately track materials and waste from jobs. Additionally, the software's short character codes for customer names made it difficult to find customers in the system. The situation worsened when their entire JobBoss system crashed, resulting in the loss of six months of data, including backups. The cost of upgrading and redoing their JobBoss system was prohibitive, prompting them to look for another software vendor.
About The Customer
Brisco Inc. is a machine, fab, and laser shop that was established in 1966 by a group of manufacturers and engineers. The company, which has been passed down as each of the founders retired, is located on land purchased in 1969. Today, Brisco Inc. has about 35 employees, many of whom have worked there for 40 years and are treated as part of the family. The company's operations include purchasing, order entry, shipping, packaging, and accounting. They work with various clients, including NASCAR race teams.
The Solution
Brisco Inc. chose to implement the E2 Shop System as it was easier to use and less challenging than JobBoss. They brought Heidi Lanter onboard to help with the transition in 2015. She spent the first six months recovering data and entering it into E2. Heidi and a couple of others attended Shoptech’s classroom training to help them get started with the new system. Currently, Brisco uses E2 for almost everything in their shop except for payroll. All of the purchasing, order entry, shipping, packaging, and accounting is done up front. Heidi uses E2 frequently to look up order history for the NASCAR race teams they work with. This information is helpful for repeat customers and looking at what they were charged in the past and the quantity they ordered.
Operational Impact
  • Brisco's billing process has drastically improved with E2. They know when jobs are being shipped and can bill customers right away, keeping the books balanced.
  • The E2 Shop System has streamlined Brisco's operations, making it easier to stay on top of things that previously affected their cash flow.
  • One employee does a lot of quoting in E2 and it sends a materials requirement list to their purchasing agent for that job. This helps him get his materials faster and his jobs are completed sooner.
