The Challenge
CBCX faced the challenge of connecting a new line of betting terminals across Europe. The company needed a more viable solution than hardware appliances to bring down costs and ensure reliable connectivity. Hardware-based VPN solutions were found to be more expensive to roll out and maintain compared to a centrally-managed client. Additionally, CBCX wanted to provide flexibility to customers who could use their own terminals or standard hardware, necessitating a reliable and encrypted connection to the CBCX datacenter without interfering with occasional Internet or email access.
About The Customer
CBCX is a leading international provider of high-quality solutions for sports and live bets, races (dog racing, horse racing, etc.), and online games (Keno, PokerBet). The company offers software for installation on customer-owned equipment as well as custom betting terminals. With a customer base of hundreds of operators and 10,000 betting stations, CBCX operates approximately 10,000 remote betting stations and terminals in 14 countries across Europe. The company is known for its innovative solutions and has been a key player in the betting industry for years.
The Solution
CBCX implemented the Barracuda CloudGen Firewall to connect its new line of betting terminals. The solution included unlimited VPN clients that could connect to the data center, providing flexibility based on customer specifications. The Barracuda CloudGen Firewall features advanced security capabilities, including integrated Intrusion Prevention (IPS), URL filtering, and antivirus. It also includes Barracuda’s Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) for both statistical and sandboxing analysis of zero-day and targeted threats. The firewall's central management capabilities allowed CBCX to enforce firewall policies for each remote client or client group, ensuring secure and reliable connections. The built-in next-generation Pathfinder technology enabled the firewall to handle large numbers of remote access client requests during peak times. Additionally, the Barracuda CloudGen Firewall F800 and F900 models included built-in SSL and VPN accelerators to reduce system load during high VPN tunnel initiation.
Operational Impact
  • Unlimited VPN clients can connect to the data center, providing flexibility and scalability.
  • The solution is cost-effective and fast to implement, reducing the overall operational costs.
  • The Barracuda CloudGen Firewall offers advanced security features, ensuring reliable and secure connections.
Quantitative Benefit
  • CBCX operates approximately 10,000 remote betting stations and terminals in 14 countries across Europe.
  • Peak compression rates of up to 75% and sustainable average compression rates of 50% significantly reduce bandwidth requirements.
