The Challenge
Glazer’s beverage distribution business, with 43 locations running 600-700 routes each day across 11 states, faced challenges in optimizing route planning, increasing productivity, and ensuring customer satisfaction. The company needed to find ways to take trucks off the road, calculate payroll more accurately, and increase face time at customer sites. Additionally, Glazer’s wanted to improve the efficiency of its Dallas-based retail merchandising team and ensure that merchandisers used their full paid time to service customers effectively.
About The Customer
Glazer’s is a family-owned and operated beverage distribution company with over 100 years of history. It is one of the largest distributors of alcoholic beverages in the United States, serving a wide range of customers including grocers, convenience stores, package stores, restaurants, and hotels. With 43 locations across 11 states, Glazer’s runs 600-700 routes each day. The company is known for its commitment to innovation and technology, which has helped it maintain its excellent reputation and emerge as a leader in the beverage distribution industry. Glazer’s has a strong focus on efficiency and customer service, leveraging advanced technologies to optimize its operations and enhance its service offerings.
The Solution
Glazer’s implemented the Omnitracs Roadnet® Transportation Suite to automate and optimize its route planning. The suite includes tools such as Roadnet, MobileCast, Merchandiser Module, FleetLoader, and Performance Dashboard. These tools helped Glazer’s gain efficiencies, improve productivity, and enhance customer focus. The Merchandiser Module, in particular, allowed Glazer’s to extend route planning advantages to its Dallas-based retail merchandising team, enabling better tracking of time spent and activities at each stop. MobileCast provided GPS-based tracking, increasing accountability and visibility for merchandisers. The Roadnet Performance Dashboard offered a big-picture view of operational activities and trends, helping managers make data-driven decisions to optimize routes and reduce costs. Glazer’s also planned to implement FleetLoader to optimize pallet and truck loading efficiency.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of the Merchandiser Module doubled the productivity of Glazer’s Dallas-based retail merchandising team, allowing them to spend more time servicing clients without any shift or personnel changes.
  • The use of MobileCast for GPS-based tracking increased accountability and visibility for merchandisers, ensuring they used their full paid time to service customers effectively.
  • The Roadnet Performance Dashboard provided managers with a comprehensive view of operational activities and trends, enabling them to make data-driven decisions to optimize routes and reduce costs.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Merchandiser productivity increased by 200%.
  • Hourly payroll costs were reduced by 150 hours per month.
