The Challenge
The Cira Centre, Philadelphia’s first major office high-rise in more than 10 years, required solutions that would blend seamlessly with its modern glass exterior while providing the functionality needed for the multi-use, high-traffic building. The entrance hardware selected had to be minimal, yet reliable and secure. The building offers a state-of-the-art office and conference center, a modern restaurant with lounge, and a fitness center. The challenge was to find a solution that would meet all these requirements.
About The Customer
The Cira Centre is a 28-story, 436' high-rise building located in Philadelphia. It is the city's first major office high-rise in more than 10 years. The building is sheathed in glass, contrasting with the limestone exterior of the neighboring 30th Street Station. The skyscraper offers a state-of-the-art office and conference center, a modern restaurant with lounge, and a fitness center. The building was designed by famed architect Caesar Pelli and constructed by Turner Construction Company. The project was distributed by Tru-Fit Frame & Door Corporation.
The Solution
DORMA’s family of products was selected to fulfill the needs of the Cira Centre. Crane Revolving Doors were installed to provide a stunning entranceway, which conforms to the minimalist design requirements while accommodating the building’s high traffic volume. The building also has a variety of DORMA door closers. The 8900 Series Surface Door Closers are narrow-projection surface door closers that deliver durability and reliability without compromising aesthetics. Also installed are DORMA’s unique cam-and-roller TS93 System Door Closers, which meet ADA barrier-free requirements. In addition, RTS88 Overhead Concealed Door Closers offer a dependable solution where surface applied units or other closers aren’t suitable. 9000 Series Exit Devices were installed, offering superior durability and a smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly to minimize catch hazards. Other DORMA products on the site include EM Series Electromagnetic Door Holders, which have highly reliable magnets with built-in protection and low residual magnetism, so they release easily and meet ADA requirements. In addition, DORMA’s PS Series Power Supplies offer high performance with heavy-duty circuitry for inductive loads and multi-door applications. With a modular design built around several different application control modules, they can meet the needs of nearly any electric lock system.
Operational Impact
  • DORMA’s access solutions have ensured Cira Centre’s entrances meet all functional, regulatory, and aesthetic requirements.
  • The Crane Revolving Doors provide a stunning entranceway, conforming to the minimalist design requirements while accommodating the building’s high traffic volume.
  • The 8900 Series Surface Door Closers, TS93 System Door Closers, and RTS88 Overhead Concealed Door Closers deliver durability and reliability without compromising aesthetics.
