The Challenge
Fortive, a company with operating companies specializing in a wide range of sectors, is driven by the motivation to create a world that is stronger, smarter, and safer for everyone. However, creating a better future requires the collection and management of a constant flow of high-quality data. Sustainability, in particular, is a remarkably data-intensive practice. Prior to using Intelex, the sustainability team was using Excel spreadsheets to collect data. However, the disparate and constantly expanding data sources, as well as the specialty knowledge required to ensure the quality and fidelity of the data, made this an impractical solution over the long term. Beyond collecting the data, the most important step is communicating the meaning of that data to a diverse range of stakeholders inside and outside the company.
About The Customer
Fortive is a company that operates in various sectors, including advanced healthcare solutions, intelligent operating systems, industrial safety, and environmental products. The company was founded in 2016 and has grown to more than 17,000 employees at 175 global locations in over 50 countries. Fortive’s operating companies include Accruent, Fluke, Industrial Scientific, Intelex, and Tektronix. The company is driven by the motivation to create a world that is stronger, smarter, and safer for everyone. It aims to build a prosperous and equitable future for the global community, which requires an ambitious attitude towards innovation, deep collaboration with partners around the world, and strategic business priorities that embrace sustainability, inclusivity, and responsibility.
The Solution
Fortive adopted Intelex and Datamaran to manage its sustainability data. Intelex became one of Fortive’s operating companies in 2019 after being acquired by Industrial Scientific. The Corporate Sustainability team uses the Corporate Reporting application to facilitate collecting sustainability data. It also uses Fortive’s in-house learning solution to ensure that everyone receives the training they need to understand how to collect and enter sustainability data. Fortive adopted Datamaran for materiality analysis in early 2020. The system has a one-of-a-kind ability to transform what is typically a manual, time-intensive and snapshot-view process into a data-driven, tailored and high-fidelity process. The transition to Intelex has enabled Fortive to collect, collate, analyze and experiment with data in a much faster timeframe and with greater agility.
Operational Impact
  • Fortive has achieved and continues to achieve its goals with Intelex. The transition to Intelex has enabled Fortive to collect, collate, analyze and experiment with data in a much faster timeframe and with greater agility.
  • The Corporate Reporting application has become the single source of truth for Fortive’s sustainability data.
  • Fortive has also transitioned its EHS&S Risk Score from Excel spreadsheets to Intelex to conduct risk score assessments, analyze trends and easily report EHS and Sustainability risks at operating companies across the organization.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Fortive achieved its initial emissions reduction targets four years earlier than planned, with a GHG emissions intensity reduction of 50.1 percent at the end of 2021.
  • Fortive set the goal of reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity by 40 percent from 2017 levels by 2030. In 2021, it revised that goal to a more ambitious 50 percent emissions intensity reduction by 2025.
