The Challenge
Eco Eats, a food delivery service, was faced with the challenge of creating an app that not only delivers food to customers but also contributes to environmental sustainability. The team wanted to build a fully-functional web app that could efficiently manage food deliveries, offer a user-friendly interface, and incorporate features that promote eco-friendly practices. The challenge was to develop this complex app without having to code, as the team did not have extensive coding knowledge. Additionally, they wanted to ensure that the app could provide a wide range of food options from various cuisines, cater to different user preferences, and manage a large database of restaurant menus.
About The Customer
Eco Eats caters to a wide range of customers, from individuals craving a meal from their favorite local restaurant to charities in need of food supplies. The app is designed to meet the needs of people who value convenience, variety, and sustainability. Users can order anything they want, need, or crave, from wood-fired pizza to fresh salads and sushi. The app also appeals to environmentally conscious users who want to contribute to keeping the planet green. By using the app, they can have a tree planted for every food order they make. Charities can also benefit from the app by signing up for the Food Program, where food is delivered to their program for free.
The Solution
The Eco Eats team chose Bubble, a no-code platform, to build their app. Bubble's point-and-click web editor and cloud hosting platform enabled them to create a fully customizable web application without the need for coding. The app includes a tour that guides users through its features such as vegan food discounts, reward points, and how to upvote features. Users can search for food, apply filters, change their location, and view progress bars representing air quality, the number of trees planted, and their reward points. The app also allows users to pay for food and have a tree planted, contributing to environmental sustainability. For charities, the app offers a Food Program where food is delivered to their program, making it easier to manage food sources.

When it came to implementing a solution, Mr. Nesbitt had an idea of what functionality that he wanted. Although not mandated by Health Canada, Mr. Nesbitt wanted to ensure quality control issues met the highest possible standards as part of his commitment to top-of-class food services. This wish list included an easy-to use temperature-monitoring system that could provide a visible display of the temperatures of all of his refrigerators and freezers, including historical information so that he could review the performance of his equipment. It also had to provide alert notification (but email alerts and SMS text message alerts) to alert key staff in the event that a cooling system was exceeding pre-set warning limits.
