The Challenge
Emil Anderson Construction, a company based in British Columbia, Canada, was facing challenges with their self-built solutions for estimating and field tracking. With the volume and complexity of work increasing, the limitations of their existing systems were becoming more apparent. They recognized the need for specialized applications and a unified solution. The company was also struggling with cohesive, coordinated estimating across several sites in British Columbia. Having multiple people work simultaneously on an estimate was impossible with the spreadsheet-based system. Incorporating input from estimators in different locations and keeping everything up to date was also a big challenge.
About The Customer
Emil Anderson Construction is a company based in British Columbia, Canada, with offices in Kelowna, Chilliwack, and Hope. The company specializes in road building, heavy civil construction, paving, bridge maintenance, and site development. They have been involved in high-profile projects such as the K95 and K125 Nordic Ski Jumps and the Whistler Bob Sled and Sliding Center for the 2010 Winter Olympics, as well as major highway and infrastructure projects and industrial sites. As the volume and complexity of their work increased, they recognized the limitations of their self-built solutions for estimating and field tracking and saw the need for specialized applications and a unified solution.
The Solution
Emil Anderson Construction implemented B2W Estimate and B2W Track to replace their self-built spreadsheet systems. B2W Estimate increased the speed at which they could input and produce a tender, leaving more time to strategize, review, and ensure they have winning bids. It also allowed for multiple people to work simultaneously on an estimate, a feature that was impossible with their previous system. B2W Track improved field tracking, providing real-time information for managers in the office and in the field. The detailed reporting directly from Track on a daily basis allowed for easy access to better information, driving better decision making in the field. The B2W estimating and field tracking applications also linked with the Viewpoint Accounting program at Emil Anderson, automating data transfer from bids and from field logs to the accounting system.
Operational Impact
  • Increased speed in inputting and producing tenders, allowing more time for strategy and review.
  • Improved field tracking with real-time information for managers in the office and in the field.
  • Easy access to detailed reporting directly from B2W Track on a daily basis.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Won four of the first five bids created with B2W Estimate.
