The Challenge
The manufacturer was undergoing a significant digital transformation, migrating parts of its legacy hybrid environment to colocation facilities to support faster, more localized connectivity and larger cloud workloads. They also sought to reduce costs, increase security, and prepare for future modernizations. The migration to co-lo facilities quickly became a blind spot in their visibility strategy. To minimize and avoid disruptions, the project required pervasive visibility and instrumentation before, during, and after the migration for inbound and outbound traffic at the private cloud, at the co-lo edge, and at regional offices where users sit.
About The Customer
The customer is a multi-billion-dollar blue-chip manufacturer and longtime NETSCOUT customer. They develop and supply innovative technology products used by millions of customers. As an industry leader, their innovation efforts are supported by hundreds of thousands of employees and a handful of subsidiaries in multiple countries. As part of a larger “vision of the future,” the organization’s leadership decided to migrate parts of its legacy hybrid environment, keeping its existing wide-area network (WAN) but replacing some private data centers with colocation facilities to support faster, more localized connectivity and larger cloud workloads.
The Solution
The manufacturer’s IT team selected a diverse set of nGenuis Enterprise Performance Management instrumentation. As they moved mission-critical applications from one data center to another, nGeniusONE and nGenuisPULSE were deployed to monitor and test that services were functioning properly and that users were not experiencing new disruptions or bottlenecks which, in the worst case, could lead to crippling outages. Over 100 nGeniusPULSE nPoints were deployed at remote offices and legacy data centers to track and trend synthetic tests for user experience analysis through the colocation data centers. NETSCOUT’s InfiniStreamNG (ISNG) appliances and vSTREAM virtual appliances are positioned in the colocation facilities and remaining data centers to help secure the organization’s traffic at the internet edge by capturing packet, session, and metadata from the network in real-time.
Operational Impact
  • By continuously monitoring network and application performance before, during, and after migration, this manufacturer drastically improved MTTI and MTTR, avoiding issues that could negatively affect applications, services, and employees.
  • The customer’s familiarity with nGeniusONE ensured this planned migration would include the same level of detailed, real-time, and historical analysis they had come to expect from NETSCOUT.
  • ISNG, vSTREAM, and nGeniusPULSE continue to provide visibility into their networks, applications, and user experiences and have significantly reduced the performance challenges and fire drills that IT might otherwise face.
