The Challenge
Riml, a family-run tourism business in Tyrol, Austria, needed to modernize its IT infrastructure to meet the increasing demands of its guests. The company's existing IT infrastructure was outdated and insufficient to handle the growing needs of the business, which includes hotels, guest houses, mountain cabins, restaurants, and sports shops. The company required a high-performance IT platform that could ensure maximum availability for all of its services and also accommodate future requirements. The new IT infrastructure needed to be agile, compact, highly available, and capable of providing state-of-the-art enterprise technologies for SMEs.
About The Customer
Martin Riml GmbH is a family-run tourism enterprise located in the Sölden municipality of the Tyrolean Ötztal in Austria. The business includes hotels, restaurants, mountain cabins, and sports shops. With around 200 employees, Riml is a model for companies in the region. The company started in 1928 with a mountain restaurant called Sonnblick in Hochsölden and expanded in 1948 with a sports shop in Sölden. Today, it consists of five hotels and guest houses with up to 700 rooms, twelve mountain cabins, apres-ski bars, restaurants, and five sports shops. The company's strategy is to provide everything for its guests under one roof.
The Solution
Riml partnered with IT service provider PEAKNET to implement a new IT platform based on HPE SimpliVity 325 hyperconverged infrastructure. The HPE SimpliVity 325 platform is a hyperconverged system that integrates server, storage, and networking components into a single, compact system. It is equipped with modern AMD EPYC 7000 processors and uses HPE's All-Flash technologies for efficient and secure operation. The platform also offers software-optimized deduplication, tiering, and modern data compression. PEAKNET implemented the new HPE SimpliVity components into Riml's IT and migrated all 25 existing virtual machines (VMs), including all data from the old system to the new one.
Operational Impact
  • The new IT platform provides a high level of performance and availability, enabling Riml to offer the best possible service to its guests.
  • The hyperconverged infrastructure reduces space, energy, and licensing costs, as well as maintenance and management expenses.
  • The All-Flash technologies ensure efficient use of storage space and data lines, preventing congestion.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The HPE SimpliVity platform achieves data efficiency of 2:1, effectively doubling the available storage capacity.
  • The company now has a total of 7 TB of All-Flash capacity available for use.
