The Challenge
Five Star Beach Properties, a luxury vacation rental company, was looking for a way to streamline their rental process and improve guest check-in experience. The company manages approximately 80 luxury and beachfront properties from Destin to Panama City, Florida and has built a stellar reputation for exceptional service and world-class marketing services. However, they were facing challenges in managing access to these properties in a secure and efficient manner. Traditional keys and cards were proving to be time-consuming and posed security risks. The company needed a solution that would not only simplify guest check-in but also provide real-time notifications and alerts for better management of the properties.
About The Customer
Five Star Beach Properties is a luxury vacation rental company that manages approximately 80 luxury and beachfront properties from Destin to Panama City, Florida. The company has built a stellar reputation for exceptional service and world-class marketing services. It also has a “sister” company, Destin Rental Bliss, which manages approximately 60 properties. Before a property can enter the Five Star rental program, the property must meet some very specific criteria, such as location, quality, amenities, and general upkeep. As part of the Five Star rental program, owners are required to purchase three full sets of luxury linens, a Kaba door lock, and an annual VRBO membership package.
The Solution
To address the challenges, Five Star Beach Properties decided to install Kaba Oracode keyless locks in their properties. Oracode is an intelligent, electronic access control system that provides keyless entry for temporary users, such as vacation renters and timeshare owners. Using a time- and date-specific code, Oracode eliminates keys and cards as well as time-consuming access control management. Access codes are generated through a high-security server on the Internet and can be communicated to the guest verbally, by text, or email. When a user enters a code into a lock, the lock uses its stored “digital key” to decrypt the code. If the lock ID matches the lock’s real time-clock and indicates that the current time is between the designated parameters, then the lock will open. Otherwise, it will remain locked and secure. In addition, codes automatically expire at the end of the authorized period. The company also started to install online locks because of the additional functionality. The online locks let you know when a guest arrives/checks out, a door is not locked, the housekeeper has arrived/left, and the inspection is complete.

AK-Centralen needed the ability to monitor the cooling alarms from around the country, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Each and every time the door to a milk cooler or a freezer does not close properly, an alarm goes off on a computer screen in a control building in southwestern Odense. This type of alarm will go off approximately 140,000 times per year, equating to roughly 400 alarms in a 24-hour period. Should an alarm go off, then there is only a limited amount of time to act before dairy products or frozen pizza must be disposed of, and this type of waste can quickly start to cost a supermarket a great deal of money.
