The Challenge
With more than 400 employees, password expirations and resets at Grupo Argos had become a significant strain on IT resources. Traveling was another challenge for staff, as logging into SAP and other apps from outside the office was difficult, impacting productivity. Employees frequently had different passwords for each SAP app, and managing passwords for both privileged users and end users had become cumbersome. Concerns were raised about security because users were re-using passwords or keeping them in unsafe locations. Macs presented an entirely different set of issues, being managed locally without IT oversight. Additionally, the company had limited visibility into third-party managed servers, which was crucial for SOX compliance and troubleshooting outages.
About The Customer
Grupo Argos is a conglomerate with sustainable investments in infrastructure, headquartered in Medellin, Colombia, and registered on the Colombia Stock Exchange. It operates throughout Latin America and North America through its affiliates and subsidiaries, including Argos (cement), Celsia (energy), and Odinsa (road and airport concessions). Grupo Argos, the parent company, has strategic investments in both public and private companies, as well as a solid investment portfolio. The company is subject to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliance regulations due to its U.S. holdings.
The Solution
CyberArk Workforce Identity provided the visibility and comprehensive auditing required for SOX compliance, SSO to key cloud applications including Office 365 and Success Factors, and a single login for Mac users. The IT team at Grupo Argos evaluated materials from analyst firms Gartner and Forrester Research and chose CyberArk for its unique offering of single sign-on, auditing, and management of both privileged and end users. A live demo showcased CyberArk's session replay capabilities, crucial for auditing activities on servers managed by third-party service providers. Early implementation of Server Suite across SAP servers demonstrated the value of in-depth audit capabilities, including session replay, which helped quickly resolve server issues.
Operational Impact
  • Increased visibility into outsourced IT activities.
  • End users are more productive and effective due to SSO.
  • Helpdesk calls have dramatically been reduced.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced the number of passwords from four to one for many users.
  • Helpdesk calls related to password issues have dramatically decreased.
