The Challenge
Harita Seating, a leading manufacturer of seating systems in India, was facing challenges in the homologation testing, regulations, and crash analysis for all commercial vehicle seats, bus passenger seats, and tractor & off-road seats. The company was looking for a solution that could help them reduce the total lead time, improve the quality of the components and tooling, and eliminate or reduce iterative reworking. The company was also seeking a solution that could provide new insights about the product performance and offer numerous design options. The challenge was to find a solution that could meet all these requirements without consuming any additional license.
About The Customer
Harita Seating is a leading manufacturer of seating systems in India, used in the automotive segments of Commercial vehicles, Tractors, Off-road vehicles, and Buses. The company is part of a 7 billion dollars TVS group and has been operational since 1988. Over the years, Harita has expanded its manufacturing locations to six locations in India and has various milestones to its credit in all the segments where it operates. All the manufacturing units are certified for ISO / TS 16949, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001. Harita also has a NABL - ISO / IEC 17025:2005 certified laboratory and a well-equipped Research & Development centre located in Hosur.
The Solution
Harita Seating adopted the Altair Suite of HyperWorks™ for all its CAE applications. The suite included HyperMesh™, HyperGraph™, HyperView™, HyperCrash™ for modeling & visualization, and RADIOSS™ for explicit non-linear, HyperForm™ for sheet metal forming simulation, MotionSolve™ for Multi Body Dynamics and Optimization. The Hyperworks™ simulation solution helped Harita in simulating bus, tractor, and off-road seats, verifying the design parameters, and performing the analysis before manufacturing. Altair HyperMesh™ enabled a change in process for finite element modelling of a class of bus and tractor seats, reducing cycle times. RADIOSS™ and OS-FEA were used by incorporating a nonlinear dynamic explicit solution upfront, saving in the lead time and cost of the repetitive tests. Altair Solvers provided an insight on arriving at creative non-intuitive designs rapidly and helped in providing new insights about the product performance and also numerous design options. Altair unique licensing facility helped in reducing solving time by 20% using the additional cores without consuming any additional license.
