The Challenge
Snorrastofa, a cultural and medieval centre in Reykholt, Iceland, was facing a challenge in creating an engaging multimedia guide for its visitors. The museum wanted to provide an immersive experience that would help guests engage with the exhibits and illuminate the tales of Snorri Sturluson, a remarkable Icelander who was a historian, scholar, and chieftain from 1206-1241. Additionally, the museum wanted to provide a GPS guide for the township of Reykholt, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
About The Customer
Snorrastofa is a cultural and medieval centre located in Reykholt, Iceland. Reykholt is a significant historical site and was home to one of the most remarkable Icelanders of all time: historian, scholar, and chieftain Snorri Sturluson who lived from 1206-1241. The museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history and culture of the region, with a particular focus on the life and works of Snorri Sturluson. The museum sought to enhance its visitor experience by creating an engaging multimedia guide and a GPS guide for the township of Reykholt.
The Solution
Locatify, a location-based services company, provided a solution by creating an Android and iOS app using the 'Automatic Tourist Guide' template. The app features treasure hunt games, audio guides, and points of interest, providing an engaging and interactive experience for the museum's visitors. The museum featured a temporary audio guide using Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology and a permanent outdoor guide using GPS. The app uses both indoor and outdoor content, including a UWB enabled audio guide, local services, and outdoor GPS enabled walking routes in multiple languages. The client provided branding assets such as app icon, loading image, banner logo, and chose the theme colours. The app is available to download for free on both Android and iOS devices from the Locatify App Store and Locatify Play Store.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of the Locatify app has significantly enhanced the visitor experience at the Snorrastofa museum. The app, with its treasure hunt games, audio guides, and points of interest, provides an engaging and interactive experience for visitors. The use of UWB technology for the indoor audio guide and GPS for the outdoor guide has allowed for a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor experiences. The app's multilingual feature has also made it accessible to a wider audience. Furthermore, the app's availability on both Android and iOS platforms has ensured that it is accessible to a broad range of visitors.
