The Challenge
Tim Dixon, of Dixon Development LLC, had a vision to create an upscale hotel in downtown Milwaukee that would cater to both business professionals and bikers. He purchased a neglected 100-year old brick warehouse, located near the Harley Davidson Museum, and set out to transform it into the luxurious Iron Horse Hotel. The challenge was to convert the 90,000 sq ft warehouse into a hotel with 100 guest rooms, while preserving the building's original architecture and industrial era charm. The hotel needed to offer state-of-the-art business services in a luxury setting, while also accommodating bikers with amenities such as an onsite bike wash and hooks in every room for hanging up heavy leathers. All modern additions, including the door hardware, had to fit unobtrusively into the renovated space.

The Solution
To ensure efficient new doorways in the renovated space, secure and durable DORMA architectural hardware was selected. The DORMA 8900 Series Closers, which offer a hydraulic control system with modern architectural styling, were chosen for their narrow projection full cover and flat form style arm. The DORMA 9000 Series Exit Devices, with their heavy-duty cast chassis and a smooth reduced projection touchbar assembly, provide superior durability for high impact applications. The virtually invisible floor-concealed DORMA BTS80 Closers and LM Series Pivots support the doors that form part of the hotel’s new glass-enclosed stairwells. The premium DORMA CL700 Locksets offer security and versatility with their high performance cylindrical chassis and availability in a wide range of lever and knob trim designs.
