The Challenge
As a board member of Liberty Place, Shirley wanted to help create a condo community that would be very open, organized and offer greater convenience. As it stood, Liberty Place was not set up to achieve this. Major challenges included: Communication – was difficult, irregular and had to be delivered manually to residents’ doors. Visitor Parking – was being exploited by residents as there was no solid monitoring in place. Deliveries – were hard to process and track, taking up valuable concierge time. All the while, Shirley was constantly being alerted to complaints from residents asking questions like “why can’t we do this ourselves” and “why isn’t there an online system in place?” The archaic processes that were originally in place quickly became pain points for residents and the board alike. In order to provide the residents of Liberty Place with the level of convenience expected, Shirley and the board looked for a solution. The solution needed to have the functionality to solve current challenges yet add a greater level of convenience to all stakeholders.
About The Customer
Shirley is the Treasurer of the Board of Directors at Liberty Place, Toronto. She is one of the original board members and has played a pivotal role in many projects since joining in 2014. In her role as Treasurer, Shirley handles all of the financials for the corporation and is actively involved with initiatives to help create a better community. Shirley believes in providing residents with a convenient, functional and harmonious condo community. Liberty Place is located in downtown Toronto, Canada, and is nestled within one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods of Toronto’s west end, Liberty Village. Registered in 2014, Liberty Place is home to 466 units. With its trendy surroundings and modern design, Liberty Place is largely home to young professionals and millennials. Many of the residents lead busy lifestyles so convenience is important. Residents are tech savvy and rely largely on the conveniences of the digital age. It is important for them to be constantly connected.
The Solution
Having researched many solutions, Condo Control (CC) was selected, with assistance from property management and the rest of the board. Functionality, support and price were all large factors in the decision-making process. Shirley and other decision makers, were confident CC could deliver on those aspects. CC has helped Liberty Place address their major challenges: Announcements - Being able to communicate with residents effectively and efficiently is crucial. The young professionals who predominantly reside at Liberty Place are accustomed to having up to date information at their fingertips at all times. By rolling out the “Announcements” feature, mass communication can now be sent to residents via email instantaneously. Visitor Parking - It was brought to the attention of Shirley and the board that many residents were exploiting visitor parking. A more structured approach was required to make visitor parking fair for all. By implementing CC’s visitor parking module, Liberty Place is able to track and monitor all visitor parking online, holding residents to the rules. Package Tracking - Online shopping is extremely popular with young professionals, so the concierge was being inundated by a high volume of parcel deliveries. The concierge needed a more streamlined system to process and track deliveries as it was taking up too much of their time. By utilizing CC’s package tracking feature the concierge staff are now able to log and track all deliveries online much more efficiently. Since all deliveries are tracked, searching for a resident’s package can be done by looking up their name or unit number. Packages are then released with a signature for added security. Concierge staff also use this feature to send notifications to residents regarding their deliveries.

Turning A Stadium Into A Smart Building
Honeywell created what it called the “intelligent system” for the National Stadium in Beijing, China, turning the venue for the opening and closing events at the 2008 Summer Olympics into a “smart building.” Designed by highly controversial artist Ai Weiwei, the “Bird’s Nest” remains one of the most impressive feats of stadium architecture in the world. Remote Wellhead Monitoring
Each wellhead was equipped with various sensors and meters that needed to be monitored and controlled from a central HMI, often miles away from the assets in the field. Redundant solar and wind generators were installed at each wellhead to support the electrical needs of the pumpstations, temperature meters, cameras, and cellular modules. In addition to asset management and remote control capabilities, data logging for remote surveillance and alarm notifications was a key demand from the customer. Terra Ferma’s solution needed to be power efficient, reliable, and capable of supporting high-bandwidth data-feeds. They needed a multi-link cellular connection to a central server that sustained reliable and redundant monitoring and control of flow meters, temperature sensors, power supply, and event-logging; including video and image files. This open-standard network needed to interface with the existing SCADA and proprietary network management software.
