The Challenge
LifeLock needed a database with key-value store functionality and high availability. For LifeLock’s identity protection, it’s imperative that client authentication be delivered in real-time. Fraud mitigation requires continuous processing and analysis of millions of transactions or user profiles. Most other databases they were considering were either designed for slower analytics or couldn’t deliver fast enough response times. Additionally, LifeLock has many database platforms running concurrently and continues to grow. Having to cover all these platforms is challenging and when looking for a solution other traditional or NoSQL databases required a great deal of complex application development to provide functionality. LifeLock Inc., now part of Symantec Corporation, is an American identity theft protection company. The company offers an identity theft protection system, which is intended to detect fraudulent applications for various credit and noncredit related services. It protects consumers through monitoring identity-related events, such as new account openings and credit-related applications by delivering on-demand identity risk, identity authentication, and credit information about consumers. LifeLock uses Redis Enterprise’s tremendous data ingest and computing power to accomplish fraud detection, notification and triggering prevention in real-time.
The Solution
LifeLock made the decision to use Redis Enterprise because of its straightforward implementation, which allowed them to implement Redis with great ease, and without losing range of functionality. This can all be done with the same number of heads, saving LifeLock on money. Caching was LifeLock’s initial usage case. Redis Enterprise’s effortless scalability and high performance allowed the DBS team to extend the solution to other aspects of their product.
