The Challenge

Medical Advocacy & Outreach (MAO), a nonprofit medical institute based in Montgomery, Alabama, was facing a significant challenge in upgrading its security infrastructure to support its rapid growth and meet compliance requirements. About The Customer

Medical Advocacy & Outreach (MAO) is a nonprofit medical institute based in Montgomery, Alabama, providing HIV, Hepatitis C, and diabetic care. The organization began in 1987 as a volunteer organization and has since expanded its services to 28 Alabama counties. In 2011, MAO launched the Alabama e-Health Telemedicine Initiative, delivering HIV-specific care, pharmacy consultations, mental health counseling, and social services. A pharmacy and dental clinic were opened in 2017. The organization continues to look for ways to improve healthcare options in their coverage areas.

The Solution

MAO implemented Check Point's Harmony Endpoint, Quantum Maestro, and R80 solutions to enhance its security infrastructure. Check Point's security logs with analysis and reporting revealed thousands of botnet connections, malware, and other malicious threats coming in and going out of the network. With SmartEvent providing clear visibility into cyber attacks, the severity of the threats was evident. Check Point Security Appliances were deployed to secure the clinics as quickly as possible. Check Point Anti-Malware efficiently detected malware with a single scan, while Check Point Compliance continuously monitored security infrastructure, gateways, technologies, policies and configuration settings all in real time to ensure compliance requirements.

The implementation of Check Point solutions has significantly improved MAO's security posture. The organization has been able to prevent ransomware infections and ensure the cyber protection and privacy of client data. The solution has also provided at-a-glance visibility of systems’ compliance status, which has been crucial in meeting compliance requirements. The improved security has enabled MAO to serve more patients through secure innovative remote services.
