The Challenge
MediaV faced the challenge of scaling its ad bidding and serving platform to meet the rapidly growing demands of China's online advertising market. The company needed a reliable, high-performance database solution capable of handling billions of user profiles and ensuring real-time responses within milliseconds. Additionally, MediaV required a system that could support high query per second (QPS) capacity, fast and consistent reads and writes, massive data storage, scalability, and robustness. Cross data center replication was also crucial due to MediaV's multiple data centers. After evaluating several NoSQL database management systems, MediaV found that none met all their requirements, leading them to develop their own data storage and management system based on an open-source NoSQL solution. The Solution
MediaV chose Aerospike's real-time NoSQL database to power its Ambition ad bidding and serving system. Aerospike's database provided the necessary performance, scalability, and reliability to meet MediaV's requirements. The database demonstrated sub-millisecond latency and the ability to process queries consistently within 5 milliseconds. Aerospike's fault-tolerant, shared-nothing architecture ensured redundancy and 100% availability. The database's cross data center replication, implemented as a star topology, synchronized data across all of MediaV's data centers, bringing data closer to customers and ensuring business continuity. MediaV deployed Aerospike clusters on servers with dual-core CPUs and several 512 GB solid-state drives, achieving 100,000 QPS per node with the potential to scale up to more than 500,000 QPS per node in the future.
