The Challenge
Life sciences companies must contend with a vast base of information and figure out how to analyze it effectively to manage sales, marketing, and distribution activities. As companies within the pharmaceutical industry seek best-practice tools and techniques in an effort to compete, demand for MiPortal® is growing – in Australia and throughout other parts of the world as well. Mercurial saw the opportunity to bring a unique set of BI capabilities to the pharmaceutical marketplace, and then to expand into other verticals as well.
About The Customer
Mercurial is a consulting and services company based in Sydney, Australia that specializes in sales and marketing effectiveness, performance management, and cloud based business intelligence (BI) applications. Its MiPortal® platform is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution that provides business insight to companies in the medical, pharmaceutical, and life sciences industries. MiPortal®, built on the Information Builders WebFOCUS BI and analytics platform, supports approximately 2,500 users – from sales representatives to finance officers to supply-chain management professionals. Mercurial currently supplies its MiPortal® solution to seven of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in Australia, including AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Novartis, and NycoMed.
The Solution
Mercurial developed MiPortal®, a cloud-based BI environment that simplifies access to business analytics, forecasting capabilities, and real-time reports. They deliver these BI assets through a SaaS environment that ensures rapid implementation, low costs, and minimal risk. Mercurial hosts MiPortal® software in a best-in-class data center, where it also stores client data in a Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse. This data warehouse includes information about sales, marketing, HR, payroll, finance, manufacturing, distribution, and other business domains. WebFOCUS accesses the warehouse to populate dashboards, reports, and InfoApps™, accessible through the MiPortal® environment. Mercurial also offers a guided ad hoc reporting environment that uses InfoApps to circumscribe the data and define precisely what people are looking for.
Operational Impact
  • MiPortal® empowers life sciences companies to formulate sales force strategies, identify commercial risks and opportunities, and increase the quality and velocity of sales and marketing decision-making.
  • Authorized users access MiPortal® through a standard web browser on a computer, tablet, or smartphone. They can also download the MiPortal® for iPad app from the Apple App Store. Either approach permits users to access content tailored to their territories, with one-click reports that reveal how their products are performing against predefined quotas and targets.
  • In addition, executive scorecards present high-level summaries, marketing metrics, and distribution metrics about the sales team as a whole. Senior managers receive general business overviews of their organizations and can drill into the details as necessary. MiPortal® distribution tools let them monitor product stock among warehouses, distributors, and wholesalers, down to individual batch numbers. Having this knowledge is especially important in the event of a product recall.
Quantitative Benefit
  • MiPortal® supports approximately 2,500 users – from sales representatives to finance officers to supply-chain management professionals.
  • Mercurial currently supplies its MiPortal® solution to seven of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in Australia, including AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Novartis, and NycoMed.
