The Challenge
Nokia, a leading global supplier of mobile phones, telecom networks, and related customer services, was struggling with the vast amount of data they had. They needed a way to analyze and understand this data to guide their product development and understand their customer base better. The data was locked up in various databases, and the tools they had at their disposal, such as Excel and PowerPoint, were not sufficient for the task. They needed a tool that could handle large data sets and provide insights quickly and efficiently.
About The Customer
Nokia is a leading global supplier of mobile phones, telecom networks, and related customer services. The company has a vast amount of data from various sources, including user data about how customers use their products and services, and survey data from their user base. They use this data to understand where they should be going with their products. However, they were facing challenges in analyzing this data and gaining insights from it. They were looking for a tool that could help them analyze large data sets quickly and efficiently.
The Solution
Nokia decided to implement Tableau, a data visualization tool, to help them analyze their data. They started small with a couple of Desktop licenses to prove its usefulness. Once they saw the potential, they started rolling it out to more people and eventually implemented Tableau Server. They used Tableau's extract capability for larger data sets as their data didn't change frequently and there was no need to be connected live. They also used Tableau to supplement data from their main databases with Excel files to create custom data mappings. This allowed them to move projects ahead without having to go back to the system developers to create new fields.
Operational Impact
  • Nokia was able to analyze large amounts of data quickly and efficiently using Tableau.
  • Employees were able to do their own analysis as the data was not all locked up in a database.
  • Tableau allowed Nokia to see trends in their data, such as user behavior and the impact of marketing campaigns.
