The Challenge
To service thousands of customers on a daily basis, NEMF needed a dynamic dispatching tool that would complement their AS400 legacy system. Their customers required access to real-time information and immediate visibility to freight movements. Additionally, NEMF wanted route visibility to allow dispatchers to determine a driver’s location accurately and add new pickups during the day. Prior to implementing MobileCast, drivers would finish their deliveries and then call the dispatcher to see what pickups would be assigned, leading to inefficiencies and delays.
About The Customer
New England Motor Freight (NEMF) is one of the largest regional carriers in the northeast United States. Headquartered in Elizabeth, New Jersey, NEMF is a Less Than Truckload (LTL) carrier that provides pickup and delivery services throughout the eastern United States, Puerto Rico, and eastern Canada. With over 900 vehicles on the road every day, NEMF operates 27 terminals and services over 10,000 customers, approximately 65% of which are serviced daily. NEMF is known for leveraging technology to improve efficiency within their organization.
The Solution
NEMF turned to Omnitracs Roadnet Technologies and licensed MobileCast, a real-time dispatch and tracking application. MobileCast provides the ability to dynamically assign new pickups to a driver’s route, offering route visibility and real-time information. This solution allowed dispatchers to check route progress and assign pickups more efficiently. Omnitracs Roadnet Technologies worked closely with NEMF to develop industry-specific functionality within MobileCast, such as dynamically changing stop sequences and adding/removing stops. The integration of MobileCast into NEMF's existing systems was seamless, requiring minimal training for drivers and dispatchers.
Operational Impact
  • MobileCast has significantly improved NEMF's productivity by allowing dispatchers to plan ahead and assign pickups more efficiently.
  • The ability to dynamically change stop sequences and add/remove stops has enabled NEMF to react quickly to immediate customer requests.
  • The integration of MobileCast with NEMF's website allows customers to check the status of their freight in real-time, improving customer service.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Reduced driver hours
  • Increased revenue per driver per hour
  • Increased serviceable stops per hour
