The Challenge
Praxis, one of the largest do-it-yourself (DIY) chain stores in the Netherlands, was facing a daily challenge of employee planning. They needed to find a balance between efficiency, effectiveness, and customer service. With proper planning, they could improve customer service and prevent excess capacity as well as undesirably high workloads. Acknowledging this, Praxis started searching for an advanced planning solution that would ensure getting the right person at the right time in the right place. After extensive market research, Praxis selected JDA Workforce Management, from JDA’s Store Operations solution. This system met Praxis’ functional requirements best. Praxis was also enthusiastic about the user interface and the short implementation time.
About The Customer
Praxis is one of the largest do-it-yourself (DIY) chain stores in the Netherlands. The company has 139 stores, including 39 megastores. Eleven of these megastores have garden centers. Besides the regular range of DIY products, customers will find a wide variety of home furnishing products. Praxis employs approximately 4,500 people. For employee planning, Praxis uses JDA Software’s workforce management solution.
The Solution
For the implementation process to run smoothly, Praxis formed a compact project team with representatives from its company, consultant Capgemini and JDA. The team opted for a pragmatic approach. Expertise and input from store personnel played an important role. Thanks to thorough preparation, it was possible to have the system live within three months. Next, the system was rolled out to the stores. Within four weeks, 80 shops were already working with the JDA system. The JDA Workforce Management solution addresses the shift in personnel management from time and attendance to a broader focus on the use of labor throughout the organization. Workforce management is traditionally used to maintain control and consistency in the workplace and reduce labor costs. Today, these systems must allow for flexibility: the right people at the right time in the right place in the entire organization.
