The Challenge
Portacool, a manufacturer and distributor of cooling equipment, was facing challenges in maintaining its aggressive growth trajectory due to its 30-year-old ERP system. The company needed a solution that would not only facilitate growth but would never be outgrown. The company also needed to import 30 years’ worth of data in a matter of months, making that data accessible, and allowing monthly books to be closed in two days rather than two weeks. Additionally, Portacool was dealing with more customer orders than manufacturing capacity, which was a stressful situation. Shipping inefficiencies were compounding and magnifying the complexities of an integrated manufacturing-distribution business. Timely, accurate processing and information sharing, both internally and with customers, was key to maintaining customer satisfaction and trust.
About The Customer
Portacool is a manufacturer and distributor of residential, commercial, and industrial cooling equipment. The company has been in operation for over 30 years and has been experiencing aggressive growth. However, the company's growth was being hindered by its outdated ERP system. Portacool's business model involves integrated manufacturing and distribution, which requires efficient and accurate processing and information sharing. The company also works with a third-party logistics provider (3PL) and receives orders from large retailers via EDI (electronic data interchange).
The Solution
Portacool chose Acumatica as its new ERP system and evaluated shipping solutions prior to implementation. The company chose Pacejet Shipping Software on the recommendation of its 3PL. Pacejet has more 3PLs in its carrier network than any other shipping software provider, providing Portacool with unmatched flexibility. The Pacejet platform supported Portacool’s growth ambitions through key integrations. Orders from large retailers come in via EDI, the leading supplier of which has a unique Pacejet-Acumatica integration. The company also recently upgraded to Pacejet’s exclusive Built by Acumatica integration which is anticipated to reduce order processing time by 40-50% compared to third-party-built integrations.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.
