The Challenge
Pacific Dental Service (PDS) is a leading dental support organization that provides supported autonomy to over 630 dental practices. The company's Private Practice+® model enables dentists to focus on clinical excellence and the highest levels of cost-effective comprehensive patient care. As a support services provider in the healthcare space, PDS is subject to HIPAA and other regulations. PDS’ IT team has upwards of 3,500 servers and 13,500 endpoints under their control, spanning traditional data centers, AWS, and including national and regional support centers and dental offices. Over time, the company expects to migrate additional applications to AWS. With a network of supported dental practices, the overall environment is very dynamic and the ability to maintain compliance across this diverse environment is critical. Beyond HIPAA, the ability to map the NIST CSF into HITRUST is central to PDS’ hybrid cloud security posture.

The Solution
PDS has been working with Cavirin for over a year, first with ARAP, and more recently, with Cavirin’s CyberPosture Intelligence Platform. A differentiator of the Cavirin platform is a wizard-based approach to third-party integrations, shortening the time and effort required to connect to existing systems. In the case of PDS, the desired third-party integration was Atlassian’s Jira, which is used for release, change management and bug tracking. The Cavirin platform easily integrated with Jira in a matter of minutes. PDS now has the ability to select the types of alerts (i.e., policy framework, severity, location) to be sent automatically as a Jira ticket for immediate operations attention. By implementing the Cavirin Platform, Pacific Dental Services is able to take a leadership role in ensuring best practices are automatically applied across their diverse environment.
Operational Impact
  • PDS now has the ability to monitor the CyberPosture and compliance of their entire environment from a single view.
  • The company can understand if they are compliant, and they see this capability in building a sustainable competitive advantage.
  • The Cavirin platform easily integrated with Jira in a matter of minutes, allowing PDS to select the types of alerts to be sent automatically as a Jira ticket for immediate operations attention.
