The Challenge
PlantSwapper founders, Zeba and Nihal, identified a problem in the plant trading community. Traditional plant forums and groups were disorganized, with inconsistencies in plant nomenclature, leading to a lot of back-and-forth between plant swappers to complete a single trade. The process was time-consuming and inefficient, making it difficult for users to find good trades quickly. Additionally, the founders wanted to provide a platform where users could host and organize contactless swap meets, especially important in the current pandemic situation. They needed a solution that would allow them to create a user-friendly platform with powerful backend capabilities, third-party integrations, and a native app.
About The Customer
PlantSwapper is a social plant trading app designed for plant enthusiasts. It provides a platform for users to swap, gift, sell, or display their plants, and even ask plant care questions. The app also enables users to host and organize contactless swap meets. The user base is largely in the southeast, but activity is increasing in other regions. The app has seen significant growth since its alpha launch, with the number of users doubling every week. The app currently has over 125 active listings in just three weeks.
The Solution
Zeba and Nihal turned to Bubble, a no-code platform, to create PlantSwapper. The platform allows users to post plant listings, select the category, variety, trade type, and plant condition. It also enables users to create different types of listings, such as 'offers' and 'wants'. A unique feature of the app is its matching system, which shows users if another user has a 'want' that matches their 'offer', and vice versa. This makes it easy for users to find good trades quickly. Users can also host local swap meets with trades and matches pre-decided through the app. Bubble's capabilities allowed the founders to develop the front-end intuitively, handle complex backend queries for matching trades, manage user accounts, and integrate with third-party platforms like Google, SendGrid, and OneSignal. The platform also enabled them to create a solution that works well on both mobile and web platforms.
Operational Impact
  • The use of Bubble's no-code platform has allowed PlantSwapper to rapidly develop an MVP in just two weeks. The platform's capabilities have enabled the founders to tweak, debug, and add new features as requested by users, ensuring the app continues to meet the needs of its growing user base. The app's matching system has streamlined the trading process, reducing the need for back-and-forth communication and making it easier for users to find good trades quickly. The ability to host local swap meets has also added a new dimension to the plant trading community. The founders plan to continue using Bubble to develop the app, with plans to make listing and matching easier and to wrap the site into a native app using plugins.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The number of users has doubled every week since the alpha launch
