The Challenge
Primus Power, a company delivering clean-tech energy storage solutions based on advanced battery technology, was in need of an ERP system. Their existing QuickBooks and Excel apps were no longer sufficient as the company began to deliver real products. They needed a system that could be implemented quickly, had a low total cost of ownership, was cloud-based, had an engineering focus, strong supply chain collaboration capabilities, and simple-to-use, accessible-from-anywhere functionality. The company was already using the cloud-based Arena Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) for their design and engineering activities, so it was essential that the new ERP and existing PLM system integrate seamlessly.
About The Customer
Primus Power is a company based in Hayward, California. Founded in 2009, the company specializes in delivering innovative energy storage solutions to enable renewable power worldwide. Their mission is to offer high-performance, low-cost, safe, and reliable energy storage solutions. The company's products are based on advanced battery technology. Prior to implementing an ERP system, the company was using QuickBooks and Excel apps for their operations. However, as the company began to deliver real products, they realized the need for a more robust system to manage their operations.
The Solution
Primus Power chose Kenandy ERP Cloud as their ERP system. The decision was influenced by multiple factors including fast implementation, low total cost of ownership, cloud-based system, engineering focus, strong supply chain collaboration capabilities, and simple-to-use, accessible-from-anywhere functionality. The Kenandy ERP Cloud integrated seamlessly with their existing Arena Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. This integration allowed engineers to implement a product idea or improvement in the PLM system and within minutes the new part number is generated in Kenandy—automatically. The system also allowed for efficient execution of workflows that used to be difficult to track on Excel. Kenandy also provided social and mobile capabilities, including Salesforce Chatter for communication and mobile access for checking the availability, location, and delivery schedule of parts.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of Kenandy ERP Cloud has transformed Primus Power's operations. The system has made information readily available at people's fingertips. For instance, once a part number is created in the system, people throughout the company can find that part; there’s a pricing history for it, a supply history. This has eliminated the need for repetitive communication and endless emails.
  • The system has also improved the efficiency of production meetings. Instead of relying on whiteboards, the team can now drill down on relevant reports together. This has made meetings more meaningful and shorter.
  • Kenandy has also allowed users to tweak the system to meet their specific needs without requiring any coding. This has led to increased efficiency in the company.
Quantitative Benefit
  • The entire process—from signing on with Kenandy to going live—took less than three months.
