The Challenge
SIBA, a leading home electronics retailer in the Nordics, was facing challenges in increasing efficiency in compiling accounting reports across stores. The company was struggling with the usefulness of the information locked in hand-compiled binders and was looking for ways to enhance information sharing across all retail store locations. Every month, SIBA had to compile the accounts for every store within the SIBA group manually. Accounts were put together at each store, forwarded to headquarters, and then compiled into a binder. With 53 electronic department stores as part of the group, this resulted in a large number of binders. The work with the accounts every month was time-consuming and the results were poor. Despite the investment in labor to compile monthly data, there was little to show for the effort.
About The Customer
SIBA AB is one of the Nordic countries leading home electronics retailers. The company runs home electronic department stores in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, and has departments for industrial trade in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Copenhagen. Since 1998, SIBA has operated an online sales operation via its website www.siba.se. The company has 650 co-workers with revenues around €350 million. SIBA is a leading home electronics retailer in the Nordics with home electronics department stores and industrial trade warehouses.
The Solution
In the beginning of 2002, SIBA installed a set of QlikView applications to manage its monthly reporting requirements. Using the QlikView Server to distribute applications, SIBA now lets each of the more than 50 store managers view their performance data and analyze trends and buying patterns using the browser-based end-user system. The actual implementation at the stores was very easy. Because QlikView Server uses a zero-footprint Java-based client, there is nothing to install at the end-user´s site. Store managers started analyzing their data after only a very brief training session. SIBA deployed QlikView to 200 employees. As important, all 50+ store managers were proficient at using the new system after only five minutes of training. With QlikView across 2 functional areas, SIBA now allows sales and financial data analysis to be more easily available to all store locations as well as corporate for better information sharing and management oversight.
Operational Impact
  • Increased control over data with self-sufficient managers equipped to run custom data analyses and special reports.
  • Improved store profitability with more detailed information available in real time.
  • Faster store response time to emerging trends and buying patterns.
