The Challenge
The Conseil Départemental du Val de Marne, a public sector organization managing the economic and social activity of 1.4 million inhabitants, was facing a significant challenge. Their computers, including those in the IT Department, were experiencing regular cyber attacks. These attacks were primarily caused by suspicious email attachments containing either known or new malicious code. Despite having antivirus programs installed, the malware was so sophisticated that it could evade detection. The IT team was tasked with finding a solution to this growing problem to ensure a secure working environment. The organization needed to protect itself against advanced threats and block all malware in real time, and manage the entire environment from a single console.
About The Customer
The Conseil Départemental du Val de Marne is a public sector organization located in Créteil, France. It manages all public services for the area’s 1.4 million inhabitants across 47 cities. The organization is responsible for managing the economic and social activity of these inhabitants. The organization's IT infrastructure is critical to its operations, and it was facing significant challenges due to regular cyber attacks on its computers.
The Solution
In response to the challenge, the Council’s IT Department researched existing solutions dealing with advanced threats and “Zero-Day” attacks, which were not recognized by traditional antivirus solutions. They then approached Check Point to perform a Security CheckUp. The solution implemented was the Check Point SandBlast Zero-Day Protection and Check Point R80.10. SandBlast offers a range of benefits. Thanks to the Threat Emulation blade, each email attachment is inspected in a virtual sandbox to look for malicious code. The technology analyzes it and sends it back to the Conseil Départemental’s IT team. This solution allowed for the blocking of known and unknown advanced threats, and provided simultaneous and simplified access to the management console for administrators.
