The Challenge
Refresco Gerber, a leading European bottler of soft drinks and juices, was facing a challenge in controlling the access, usage, and security of corporate data as the company expanded across Europe. The company's rapid growth and acquisition of smaller operations and rival distributors brought along a diversity of systems and practices. As teams used their personal mobile devices to access information on the move, ensuring the protection of precious corporate data became increasingly difficult.
About The Customer
Refresco Gerber is a leading European bottler of soft drinks and juices, serving retailers and brand-label customers. The company operates 27 sites in nine countries, with more than 150 beverage filling lines producing 6 billion litres. The company employs around 4,100 employees and generates annual sales of around €2 billion. Refresco Gerber is growing exceptionally quickly, and has recently acquired smaller operations and rival distributors.
The Solution
To improve information security, Refresco Gerber, in collaboration with IBM, brought virtually every device into centralized control with cloud-based IBM MobileFirst Protect (formerly MaaS360) solutions. This solution reduced their business risk and costs, and enhanced regulatory compliance. The solution supports a wide variety of devices and there is no on-premises software to install. Device management and reporting is completed using web browser access to the cloud solution. The MobileFirst Protect container on the mobile device follows the app installation process that is familiar to virtually all mobile and tablet users. Once installed and populated with the corporate apps, users can access and share information in a protected manner from within the MobileFirst Protect container with no impact on their personal data.
Operational Impact
  • The solution provides a mobile working infrastructure that dramatically increases data security and control.
  • It makes it easy to manage devices, and enables mobile working for users without imposing central restrictions.
  • The solution supports a wide variety of devices and there is no on-premises software to install.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Within two years of deployment, Refresco Gerber expects around 20 percent of its employees to connect to corporate systems via mobile devices.
