The Challenge
The traditional mentorship model has been facing several challenges, making it difficult for individuals to find the right mentor to guide them through critical moments in their career. The lack of a proper network or time constraints often prevent individuals from seeking out the right mentor. The cost of missing out on important opportunities due to inadequate information or preparation is high. The founder of Pocket Board, Erika Gemzer, identified these challenges and sought to modernize mentorship, making it easy and accessible for individuals to find the guidance and coaching they need, when they need it.
About The Customer
Pocket Board is designed for growth-minded workers who are seeking guidance and coaching in their careers. These individuals may be at any stage in their career, from young professionals to mid-career professionals trying to break in and build their pathway to success. The app is particularly beneficial for those who do not have a proper network or enough time to seek out the right mentor. Pocket Board provides these individuals with a platform to easily find skilled, one-on-one mentorship from accomplished industry mentors, on their schedule.
The Solution
Pocket Board is an app that provides a platform for individuals to find skilled, one-on-one mentorship. The app allows growth-minded workers to search a marketplace of mentors to find a skilled industry mentor who has the background and skills they are looking for. Once potential mentees find a few mentors they like, they can check out the mentor's profile, read their bios, and check their rates. They can then ask a 'Quick Question' to learn about the mentor's style or approach, or book 1:1 sessions with that mentor, at times that fit their schedule. Over time, mentees can even become mentors themselves, helping others grow and catapult their careers. The app was built using Bubble, a no-code platform with built-in backend services and database, which allowed for a faster build.
Operational Impact
  • The operational results of Pocket Board have been impressive. The platform has successfully modernized mentorship, making it easy and accessible for individuals to find the guidance and coaching they need, when they need it. The platform's user-friendly interface and extensive marketplace of mentors have made it a no-brainer for accomplished industry mentors to offer paid mentoring sessions. The platform has also shown its potential for career growth, with one mentee even becoming a mentor. The high average net promoter score indicates that users are finding a lot of value in the platform and are willing to refer their friends. The founder is currently recruiting more mentors, particularly in Sales professions, to build out a robust mentorship offering for all Sales roles.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Launched the alpha in June with only two mentors and had 30 bookings in the first 30 days.
  • Average net promoter score is a perfect 10, indicating high customer satisfaction.
  • Most of the mentees have booked multiple sessions, showing repeated use of the platform.
