The Challenge
Rust-Oleum Europe, part of RPM International Inc, one of the world’s largest paint manufacturers, faced the challenge of ensuring compliance with regional regulations to maintain the right to sell in markets. The company had to meet the requirements of new and increasingly complex environmental, health and safety (EHS) regulations across the EU. They also aimed to go beyond compliance and promote standardization to make their operations more efficient. Another challenge was to provide Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information in multiple languages.
About The Customer
Rust-Oleum is a part of RPM International Inc, one of the world’s largest paint manufacturers. The company has a presence in 150 countries worldwide. Ensuring compliance with regional regulations and maintaining the right to sell in markets is paramount for the business. The company was founded in 1921 and has over 10,000 employees worldwide. The company operates in the paint manufacturing industry and has a significant presence in Europe and across the globe. The company's greatest challenge is meeting the requirements of new and increasingly complex environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations across the EU.
The Solution
Rust-Oleum Europe used Sphera’s Product Compliance Software to automate the production and management of Safety Data Sheet information (SDS) and label texts. The software includes Sphera Intelligent Authoring™ and Sphera Managed Regulatory Content. The company has been using Sphera software to author and manage SDSs at some of its facilities since 2007. In 2012, the company reformatted the SDSs for all of its mixtures as required under Annex II Regulation 1907/2006/EC of REACH – EU’s regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals. The software helped the company to proactively address potential issues and continuously improve its SDS and labeling processes.

Field Device Asset Management For Chemical Company in China
Chinese chemical subsidiary of multinational corporation serves customers throughout the world. Sales offices and research and technology centers are strategically located to provide rapid response to customer requests. Just two workers were assigned to maintain thousands of intelligent instruments in three production units, so they could do little more than react to device issues as they appeared. This costly maintenance method inevitably led to unexpected downtime when a critical instrument failed. Plant management recognized the need to change from reactive to predictive maintenance for all assets, including instruments and control valves, but help was needed in implementing such a technology-based initiative.
