The Challenge
Sacred Heart Hospital has dramatically increased the number of laptops they provide to nurses, physicians, and other staff to enable more effective patient care. However, with the move towards portable devices, Sacred Heart needed to effectively monitor the devices and have a solution in place where the hardware, as well as the sensitive data stored on these devices, were protected regardless of the device location or the user.
About The Customer
Sacred Heart Hospital is a 215-bed Catholic medical center located in central Allentown, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1912, the facility offers a wide range of advanced medical services ranging from obstetrics to bariatric surgery, vascular surgery, cardiology, rehabilitation, and behavioral health services. Sacred Heart manages a deployment of approximately 300 mobile devices spread across multiple departments. The value of portability has been the driving influence in mobile device adoption. Physicians and administrators can leverage mobile technology to access patient information when visiting patients off-site.
The Solution
Absolute DDS was selected as an endpoint security and data risk management solution to alleviate the risk of device theft and associated data loss at Sacred Heart Hospital. According to Janet Nelson, Senior Network Administrator, Absolute DDS serves as a meaningful security and compliance tool. 'In the current environment, we use Absolute DDS for its tracking and data protection capabilities. If devices go missing or are stolen from the facility, we are able to initiate a full data wipe remotely. We know which devices contain sensitive data and can prevent any potential exposure of patient data.' With the recent release of the Endpoint Data Discovery feature within Absolute DDS, Sacred Heart is motivated to incorporate a solution that will allow them to extend their data monitoring capabilities to each endpoint, on and off network. This capability will enable Sacred Heart to proactively search for sensitive data that may be at risk beyond the bounds of their existing data monitoring capabilities.
Operational Impact
  • Remote data delete to mitigate data exposure.
  • Monitor and maintain HIPAA data protection regulations.
  • Verify the status of hardware, software, and other device details.
