The Challenge
The Special District Risk Management Authority (SDRMA) was facing a storage capacity issue. They had been using Nutanix technology, but ran out of storage and could only expand by adding new nodes, which was frustrating to the IT team. The storage utilization challenge had stumped SDRMA until they found SimpliVity. After vetting the platform’s disaster recovery, backup, and deduplication features, SDRMA and iFish Group chose SimpliVity’s hyperconvergence solution.
About The Customer
The Special District Risk Management Authority (SDRMA) is a public entity risk management pool that serves more than 700 members in California from a range of government agencies. The organization provides property, liability, workers’ compensation and health benefits coverages. The SDRMA is a 30-year-old organization providing coverage protection through risk management solutions to public agencies in California. The SDRMA partners with iFish Group, an IT consulting and custom development firm, for its managed hosting services.
The Solution
SDRMA implemented three SimpliVity OmniCubes. They deployed two OmniCubes in their main data center and one in a remote data center about 20 miles away. The remote site had been up and running for the past few years, but the SimpliVity technology has now optimized the data transmitted over the WAN and resulted in reduced backup windows and increased data transfer performance to their remote data center. Overall, SDRMA has seen a substantial increase in storage capacity with SimpliVity’s built-in, inline data deduplication. There’s much more room for growth, as SDRMA is getting much better storage utilization than they did with Nutanix.
Operational Impact
  • Greatly increased storage capacity
  • Cut out redundant backup and replication products
  • Improved disaster recovery capabilities
Quantitative Benefit
  • 40:1 data efficiency ratios, compared with 2.8:1 using compression or deduplication with the old Nutanix system
