The Challenge
SearchPilot, a company that deals with intensive data and processing activities, was concerned about its carbon footprint and the impact it was having on the environment. The company had assessed its carbon footprint for the financial year 2020-2021 and found it to be equivalent to 18 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This included emissions made directly by the company, emissions from energy purchased in the form of heating, lighting, and electricity, and emissions made by suppliers to provide services. The company was looking for a way to offset these emissions and contribute to the global path to net zero.
About The Customer
SearchPilot is a company that deals with intensive data and processing activities. The company is committed to being carbon neutral and supporting the global path to net zero. One of the company's core values is to enjoy the journey, which includes knowing that their work is not damaging the planet and might even have a positive impact bigger than themselves. The company has assessed its carbon footprint for the financial year 2020-2021 and found it to be equivalent to 18 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This includes emissions made directly by the company, emissions from energy purchased in the form of heating, lighting, and electricity, and emissions made by suppliers to provide services.
The Solution
To offset its carbon emissions, SearchPilot purchased high-quality permanent carbon removal for its entire emissions throughout its supply chain for the financial year 2020-2021. The company offset its emissions with 11 tonnes of capture via biochar, 5 tonnes of capture via enhanced weathering, and 2 tonnes of capture via direct air capture (DAC). The company also decided to support the path to global net zero by supporting carbon capture and planning to reduce its carbon emissions. Additionally, SearchPilot decided to be early buyers of unproven and uneconomic direct carbon capture technologies, joining companies like Stripe and Microsoft in this approach.
Operational Impact
  • SearchPilot has become a truly carbon-neutral company.
  • The company is supporting the path to global net zero by supporting carbon capture and planning to reduce its carbon emissions.
  • SearchPilot is an early buyer of unproven and uneconomic direct carbon capture technologies, helping to make these technologies attractive to more organizations in the future.
Quantitative Benefit
  • SearchPilot offset 18 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions for the financial year 2020-2021.
