The Challenge
Borden Chemical faced the challenge of managing and analyzing vast amounts of data generated from their production processes and research studies. With over 30 sites worldwide and more than 150 researchers, Quality Control engineers, and technical consultants, the company needed a robust system to automate data analysis and report generation. The manual process was time-consuming and prone to errors, leading to inefficiencies and delays in delivering critical insights to both internal stakeholders and customers. Additionally, Borden Chemical required a solution that could seamlessly integrate with their existing data repositories, such as SAP and their LIMS system, to ensure accurate and timely data access for analysis.
About The Customer
Borden Chemical is a leading supplier of high-performance resins, adhesives, coatings, and basic chemicals to a broad range of industries. Their products are essential for various end-use applications, including wood composites, building materials, foundry molds, fiber-optic cabling, electronics, enhanced oilfield production, and automotive and aerospace components. Borden Chemical is known for its innovative solutions and commitment to customer satisfaction, backed by unmatched technical sales and service. With strategically located production facilities, the company ensures a cost-effective and reliable supply of products, making them a strategic partner in their customers' businesses.
The Solution
To address these challenges, Borden Chemical implemented the STATISTICA Enterprise-wide SPC System (SEWSS) as their analysis platform. SEWSS provided comprehensive data analysis and reporting tools, automating the process of product test data analysis and report generation. This system was deployed across over 30 sites worldwide, serving more than 150 users, including researchers, Quality Control engineers, and technical consultants. SEWSS enabled Borden Chemical to create monthly product reviews and reports that were sent to customers with product shipments, ensuring timely and accurate information delivery. In collaboration with StatSoft, Inc., Borden Chemical integrated SEWSS with their key data sources, such as SAP and their LIMS system. This integration allowed users to run analyses and select criteria for various parameters using SEWSS' interactive filtering capabilities. The centralized configuration of connections and queries ensured seamless data access and analysis, enhancing the overall efficiency and accuracy of the process.

Integral Plant Maintenance
Mercedes-Benz and his partner GAZ chose Siemens to be its maintenance partner at a new engine plant in Yaroslavl, Russia. The new plant offers a capacity to manufacture diesel engines for the Russian market, for locally produced Sprinter Classic. In addition to engines for the local market, the Yaroslavl plant will also produce spare parts. Mercedes-Benz Russia and his partner needed a service partner in order to ensure the operation of these lines in a maintenance partnership arrangement. The challenges included coordinating the entire maintenance management operation, in particular inspections, corrective and predictive maintenance activities, and the optimizing spare parts management. Siemens developed a customized maintenance solution that includes all electronic and mechanical maintenance activities (Integral Plant Maintenance).
